Talk Series

The Psychology Department hosts invited speakers for several talk series that include our biweekly colloquium series, our annual Psi Chi lecture, and our annual Sherman Memorial Lecture.

Psi Chi Lecture

Our department holds an annual induction ceremony for new members of Psi Chi, the psychology undergraduate honor society. Current Psi Chi members vote to nominate an invited speaker from outside the department who presents at the ceremony. Psi Chi lectures are held in person in White Gravenor. Psi Chi lectures are open to all members of the Georgetown community, and are typically followed by a reception and the induction ceremony.

Sherman Memorial Lecture

The Sherman Memorial lecture series is a biannual lecture series on the science of learning, made possible by a generous gift from the estate of Gil Sherman, a former faculty member and Chair of the department. Dr. Sherman joined the department in 1969, following an undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College and PhD from Columbia University. Author of 7 books and numerous journal articles, Dr. Sherman devoted his career to applications of learning theory for education, much before this became a field of study in its own right.
