Military TBIs Linked to Faster Aging in Post-9/11 Veterans

A new study from Professor Kyle Bourassa, published in The Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation, reveals that post-9/11 veterans who experienced deployment-related traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) show signs of accelerated biological aging. Researchers analyzed blood samples from over 1,100 veterans and found that TBIs—especially those sustained during military service—are strongly linked to faster aging, particularly in women. The findings suggest that even mild concussions may increase the risk of age-related health problems, highlighting the need for early screening and tailored care for veterans.
