Culture and Emotions Lab Awards

September 11, 2014 – Congratulations to the Culture and Emotions Laboratory!

Student members of Dr. Yulia Chentsova-Dutton’s Georgetown Culture and Emotions Laboratory have received a number of honors this year.

Elisabeth McClure, M.A.

Graduate student Elisabeth received a Psi Chi Graduate Research Grant to help fund her dissertation research on Skype usage among infants and toddlers. She is also an alternate for the American Academy of University Women’s Dissertation Fellowship, and was a finalist for the Fred Rogers Center Early Career Fellows Program. Her research was recently featured in the Science News parenting blog in a piece called What’s going on in the Mind of a Skyping Baby? as well as on the blog of the Association for Psychological Science. Congratulations, Elisabeth, on such a successful year in research!

Nicole Senft

Graduate student Nicole received the East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) International Travel Grant, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, to conduct research in South Korea during the summer of 2014. This grant allowed her to collect data that will ultimately be used in her dissertation on cultural influences on emotional expression and social interactions. Congratulations, Nicole, on this great and well-deserved honor!

Alexandra Gold

Undergraduate Research Assistant Alexandra received a Psi Chi Undergraduate Research Grant to help fund her senior honors thesis project looking at cultural differences in bodily expressions of emotions. Alexandra majored in Psychology with a minor in Cognitive Science and graduated with honors in May. She hopes to continue with psychology research and ultimately pursue a career in clinical psychology or psychiatry. Congratulations, Alexandra, on your well-deserved recognition and on your graduation!
