Job/ Research/ Internship Opportunities
Full-Time Research Data Collector: Virginia
Posted: May 9, 2012: We are looking to hire a recent graduate who intends to go on to graduate or medical school next year but desires human research experience. We have a full-time 12-month position available working at a Department of Motor Vehicles Service Center, administering a very sophisticated virtual reality driving simulation test battery, complete with neuropsychological testing, to customers who are undergoing an on-road driving exam. The goal is to determine whether virtual reality assessment is equivalent or superior to on-road driving examinations. This has major implications both for functional assessment of cognitive-motor-perceptual skills and as a new, valid, safe, objective alternative to DMV driving assessment.
If you are interested in this position, have recently graduated with a GPA of >3.3, then send a CV and letter of interest to djc4f@virginia.edu.

Homeless Children’s Playtime Project (HCPP): Site Manager Fellows
Posted March 8, 2012: The Homeless Children's Playtime Project (HCPP) is in the process of hiring .three part-time leadership positions
The Homeless Children's Playtime Project is a nonprofit that establishes play rooms and play programs in family homeless shelters in DC where it runs ten programs each week. We train volunteers to run educational and therapeutic play programs to give children a healthy outlet to cope with the crisis of homelessness and opportunities to learn and heal through play. For more information about our organization, please visit www.playtimeproject.net.
We are in the process of hiring three part-time leadership positions that would be perfect for exceptional graduating seniors looking for a challenge or graduate students if we can work out an internship through your department. The pay is not much ($12,000 stipend for 20 hours/week/year) but the experience is going to be phenomenal. We are looking for three people beginning in June to lead three playtime nights each (this would be a requirement, which might not be easy with class schedules). They would gain incredible experience as a program manager, child development/educational coach for volunteers, and many other creative leadership roles. In short, they will be the "principal" of our play programs, and the volunteers will be the "teachers."
We are going to invest in a lot of training and support into these positions, and they will be well-positioned to run children's programs when they complete their year of the fellowship.
